These are nods to star charts referenced for game play in decades past. These may still serve well for common reference, and they also often demonstrate material from which more modern charts (as now used in licensed games such as Star Trek Online, or Star Trek Adventures) are drawn, and even have served as starting points leading to current canon on-screen star charts in various Trek shows.

In the early 2000’s this map was commonly used for game play reference. The creator of this map was also a contributor for the officially licensed Star Trek: Star Charts book by Geoffrey Mandel, lending credence to this early reference image, although future charts would evolve from this concept a great deal. The website is now in archival mode and while much of the content is copyrighted to the creator or to those he borrowed from in his references, this map was generally shared in goodwill with the Role Playing public, as stated on the site.
